There are so many ways to be a part of the 2012 National Walk for Epilepsy. Explore all the ways you can make an impact on the life of a person living with epilepsy.

Form a team...Creating a walk team is easy and fun.  What a great way to enjoy a healthy activity while raising money for a worthwhile cause.  If you want to form a team for the Walk click here to get started.

Donate...Every donation helps put us closer to a world without seizures. If you would like to make a donation to a person or a team click here to search for the name.  Maximize your gift by checking with your employer to see if they participate in a matching gift program.

Volunteer...Share your time and talents as a Walk volunteer.  There are numerous opportunities available.  Visit our volunteer page to learn more and to sign up.

About the Walk

The National Walk for Epilepsy® is a family oriented, noncompetitive walk in our nation's capital to raise awareness and funds to continue the fight to stop seizures, find a cure and overcome the challenges created by epilepsy. Help us make a difference by registering today.

DONATION TENT
If you have collected donations and team gifts, you can bring them with you to the Walk and drop them off at the donation tent—or just make a donation yourself.

WALKER'S VILLAGE
Stop by the Walker's Village tent to meet our Walk supporters, receive educational information and great giveaways. There will also be doctors there to answer your questions about epilepsy at our "Ask the Experts" session from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

SPECIAL GUESTS
WTOP's Bob Madigan, Left on Lincoln band, Gwynn Park High School marching band, Oriole Bird, Chick-fil-A Cow, Bowie Baysox Louie, Washington Greenhawks Dunkin and Miss Mid-Atlantic 2012, Dr. Allison Hill will be at the Walk. Jennifer Moore Woods (who has a family member living with epilepsy) will perform the National Anthem at the Pre-Walk Rally sponsored by Lundbeck.

KIDS TENT
Bring the kids by for face painting, temporary tattoos and other fun activities.

SOCIAL MEDIA
A new addition to the Walk this year is our Social Media tent. Stop by this tent to get your picture taken in front of the Walk Mural, which we’ll put on our Facebook page!

You can also represent your home pride at our Hometown Heroes table. Place a pin on our US map representing your hometown. Help your region compete for the largest number of participants at the Walk!

After the Walk, keep the conversation going at one of the local area restaurants, like Subway at 555 13th Street NW.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
There are several Metro train routes from the suburban areas surrounding the city. The closest Metro station to the Walk site is Smithsonian Metro (blue and orange lines). Limited visitor parking is available along Ohio Drive between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. Bus parking is primarily available along Ohio Drive near the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials

The 2012 National Walk for Epilepsy is slightly over 2 miles. The start line is located on the gravel path near 14th Street between Madison and Jefferson Drives on the National Mall.

Transportation

Plane
Three major airports link Washington, D.C. with the rest of the country, Ronald Reagan National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport. All of the airports have limo, and cab services available that will connect with the National Mall. The Metro rail stops at Ronald Reagan National Airport.

The Epilepsy Foundation has partnered with American Airlines to provide our attendees with a 8% discount off ANY published airfare on www.aa.com for the National Walk for Epilepsy in Washington, DC.

The valid travel dates for this discount are March 28, 2012 – April 6, 2012. You can easily access American’s fares and apply this discount by going to www.aa.com to book your flight. Car
Interstate 395 provides access to the Mall from the south. Interstate 495, New York Avenue, Rock Creek Parkway, George Washington Memorial Parkway, and the Cabin John Parkway provide access from the North. Interstate 66, U.S. Route 50 and 29 provide access from the West. U.S. Routes 50, 1, and 4 provide access from the East. There is limited handicapped parking at the Lincoln and FDR memorials. Parking is generally extremely scarce in Washington, DC.

T-Shirt Pickup

Walk t-shirts are typically mailed starting three weeks prior to Walk day.  T-shirts will be mailed beginning the second week of March. If you choose to have your t-shirt mailed and are registering after Friday, March 9, 2012 we will not be able to guarantee that your t-shirt will be received prior to Walk day.
